The Coast Guard received MAYDAY call at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday from the captain of the 106-foot motor yacht Serena III stating that the vessel sinking about 13 nautical miles off Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida.
Arriving on scene was the crew of the USCGC Margaret Norvell, who launched a small boat to embark the 13 people. The yacht completely sank some 25 minutes later.
The rescue and sinking was all captured on video by a Coast Guard helicopter crew.
Rescued were six passengers, six crew and the captain.
All 13 people were taken aboard the Margaret Norvell and brought back to Coast Guard Base Miami Beach with no medical concerns.
