The official trailer for the big-budget flick “Deepwater Horizon” starring Mark Wahlberg was released Wednesday, giving a first glimpse at the long-awaited film that looks to tell the true story of the April 20, 2010 explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 people and resulting in the worst oil spill in U.S. history. On April 20th, 2010, the world’s largest man-made disaster occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), this story honors the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone’s lives forever.
On one hand, the movie looks to be a white-knuckled, CGI thriller that will provide audiences with a rare glimpse at deepwater drilling and the lives of the people who work on rigs like the Deepwater Horizon.
On the other hand, the trailer almost makes it seem like this disaster was actually caused by 300-million-year-old monsters (dinosaurs) bubbling up from the depths of the earth in search of freedom. But wasn’t this disaster and loss the 11 lives the result of BP’s gross negligence? And weren’t Transocean and Haliburton also found negligent? Let’s not blame this on dinosaurs.
Either way, we’re planning to go see “Deepwater Horizon” when it hits theaters on September 30. Will you?
